Schedule to review the Beaufort Code

14 Mar Schedule to review the Beaufort Code

Last week we heard a loud outcry from residents of one neighborhood saying that behind closed doors the City was rezoning a Bay Street Property.  WRONG.

It is true that the proposed draft recommend rezoning as part of the new Beaufort Code yet it is still a draft.  Before any changes are made, the staff is continuing to listen to the public to create,  based on what they learn, a final draft. The final draft will go to the Beaufort Port Royal Metropolitan Planning Commission for recommendation then  to city council for a public hearing and the consideration.

Please take notice of the meetings or review the code at the City’s website and let us know your thoughts.  This process is as transparent as we know how to make it and we need for citizens to weigh in.

We hope you will look and comment now rather than coming to final meetings saying “nobody told us.”

Thanks for taking an interest and for participating in this very public process.

Schedule to review the Beaufort Code

The City of Beaufort Planning Department is hosting a series of Public Meetings to review a draft of the Beaufort Code - an update to the City’s development code. This new code has been in the works for several years, and we recently completed a three-month technical review with members of our Boards and Commissions, including two representatives from City Council. That committee generated over 200 great comments which have been incorporated into an updated Code draft. The draft, along with a full list of comments and resolutions, and an updated map, can be found on the Beaufort Code page of the City’s website.
