A huge shout of to the many who made our holiday weekend very special

05 Dec A huge shout of to the many who made our holiday weekend very special

A HUGE SHOUTOUT to Mainstreet, downtown merchants, principal sponsors SCE&G and Hargray Communications, the Marine Jazz Band, Santa and the many others who made Night on the Town the best ever.  Merchants I am told did well. People had fun and the event demonstrated the strong collaboration which is the backbone of our community that makes us special.

And then a second SHOUT OUT to Beaufort Sail and Yacht Squadron who, with support from the Beaufort Marine Rescue Squadron, for organizing the hugely successful Light up the Night parade of decorated boats that did two passes by the Marina for a large assembly of families out to watch the boats and joyful passengers.

And of course the normal SHOUT OUT to the Lions Club of Beaufort for organizing what was likely the best organized and well attended Christmas Parade.  The City Council rode in  the parade behind Sen Tom Davis and Representative Shannon Erickson.  When we reached the end some of the floats followed by fire trucks were just started the route down Boundary, up Carteret, along Bay and down Adventure Streets.

Let’s also thank all of those who came out to support Beaufort’s holiday events and of course the police, firefighters and EMS who were in place to ensure the public’s safety.

I love the idea of a town that loves its people and works together to make it better for all.

Lest we not forget council woman elect Nan Sutton who rode on the float with City Council and was followed by her own paparazzi who chased her along Bay Street.  Between Nan and Stephen Murray, the broadcast parts of the parade live on their Facebook pages.  A little youth to council is welcomed by my colleagues.
