22 Aug TODAY at 2PM Finance Committee to Discuss Ladys Island Traffic Study

County Council Finance Committee Meets Today at 2 pm. Hilton Head Island Library.  Last Week I received more than 100 letters from Ladys Island Residents seeking support from Beaufort County’s Finance Committee to use some of the $280,000 the county received as traffic impact fees from Wal-Mart to pay for an important traffic study on Ladys Island. The letter encourages citizens to weigh in with their concerns at the meeting....

22 Aug Talk About Determined to find her “Monkey”

Tell me this lady is not dedicated to “Monkey” and other pets. I had the good fortune to meet Ms. Olsen on the telephone when she called me reaching out for help. Other than to refer her to those to whom she had already reached out, unfortunately there was little I could do other than to encourage her. I knew while discouraged she was not going to up. When she found the dog, she let me know and I had planned to write the story in the newsletter. However, since the Packet/Gazette...

22 Aug Parking Garage?

A private developer announced plans to build and finance a private parking garage in downtown Beaufort. That is a good thing! The Historic (District) Review Board (HRB) voted to support the project “conceptually” though the outlying issue of architectural design is no small challenge. Large parking structures have been made to fit in other...

22 Aug Threat to Our Military Bases that can be resolved

Our Military at Risk? I am sure some will think "well here he goes again"  with his wants about sea level rise, and specifically ways we can control it in the Town of Port Royal and the City of Beaufort. The report from the all volunteer Beaufort-Port Royal Sea Level Rise task...

Beaufort, SC Mayor Billy Keyserling

22 Aug Here we go again…running hard against myself

I will be running hard. For some reason, either because the citizens have confidence in me as their Mayor or no one else wants the job, it appears I will not have opposition in the November 8th general election. That does not mean I will not run a campaign, as I did four years ago when I was unopposed, seeking thoughts about I can be a better mayor, fine-tuning my listening skills and answering questions from citizens. I will also be seeking ideas about how the City can be more successful at...
