Historic site being cleared of debris

27 Jun Historic site being cleared of debris

It was brought to the attention of the City that, even though outside of the archeological boundary surveyed area which was taped off, equipment and rubble from Boundary Street redevelopment could have an adverse impact on the surrounding area. The city quickly found a solution.

The former Huddle House paved parking lot will be used rather than the area around Battery Saxon Historic Site to store heavy equipment and rubble.

Thanks to the Beaufort County Historical Society and the SC Battleground Preservation Trust for bringing to our attention the areas adjacent to surveyed sites could be endangered.  The site should be clean again within the week.

As I said in our little book, The Pink Dolphin, working together works and makes a hometown better for all.
