Beaufort, S.C. – Oct. 22, 2015 – Leaders from the YMCA of the USA and Ys across the state of South Carolina gathered in Columbia on Tuesday, Oct. 20th for the 7th annual YMCA Leaders Conference and Public Policy Awards Dinner. The Public Policy Committee of South Carolina recognized Mayor Billy Keyserling with its Community Ambassador Award. The award is presented annually to individuals who demonstrate compassion and caring for the community and have thus made significant contributions to the Y movement. Mayor Keyserling was presented with his award on October 22, 2021 at the YMCA monthly board meeting by YMCA Board Chair Ernie Schlichtemeier.

“Mayor Keyserling is not just a Y member, he is a true friend of the Y and we are very grateful for his support in both dollar and deed,” said Michael Bostwick, CEO of the YMCA of Beaufort County. “He has been instrumental in bringing the Spirit of America Youth Boating Program into the Y, helping to foster a partnership that has grown into our successful YMCA Youth Boating Program, allowing our local youth to learn the skills they need to be safe out on the water.”

Mayor Keyserling and the Keyserling Family Foundation have also been loyal supporters of the Annual YMCA Scholarship Campaign which provides financial assistance for those in need to participate in various Y programs –from the Discovery Preschool, summer camps and our Learn To Swim Program to sports programs and more. Mayor Keyserling is also a committed Y volunteer, giving his time to be part of Read Across America, an annual nationwide reading celebration held every March.
