25 Apr Trailblazing Young Leaders Program by Bolden Middle School
In the three years of organizing program for middle schoolers from nine schools in northern Beaufort County, the program hosted at MCAS by Bolden broke ground for a complementary approach: students as teachers.
We met last Wednesday at the Officers Club where the Whale Branch Early College High School ROTC lead the educational segment on leadership. They demonstrated collaboration, shared their individual stories with our students, taught them about the discipline required in ROTC and gave them a taste of lining up, standing at attention and small groups marching in sync.
The program was fun, productive and opens up opportunities for next year and years to come.
Thank you Bolden for the gift of a creating session and to WBECHS for helping to make it the success it was.
I would be remiss if I did not take a moment to thank the liaisons from Beaufort, Ladys Island, Bridges, Riverview, Whale Branch, Lowcountry Montessori and Bolden Middle Schools and Robert Smalls International Academy and Beaufort Academy for their support and participation. And to Scott Shipsey for being our lead coordinator and to Wade Bishop and his staff from Beaufort County Dept of Alcohol and Drug Abuse who help make this possible.
