BEAUFORT  The University of South Carolina Beaufort Center for the Arts is proud to announce their 2017-2018 season of show.   “Wow, this season the Center for the Arts is going to be the place to be to see incredible shows every month, sometime twice a month,” stated Bonnie Hargrove, CFA director.

 

On September 29, Mainstage shows begins with the Classic Nashville Road Show , here to remind us of a time when June fell for Johnny and Loretta was just a coal miner’s daughter. Let Classic Nashville Roadshow take you on a journey down memory lane with your favorite classic hits honoring the world’s most beloved country greats!

 

The Beaufort Theatre Company will present Conrack, a musical based on Pat Conroy’s beloved novel “The Water is Wide” October 13, 15, 21 and 22.

 

 Pat Conroy Literary Festival will return for the 2nd year October 19 – 22, with over 40 award winning authors providing film discussions, lectures, workshops and book- signings.

 

Showcasing one of the greatest voices of our time, Linda Eder will perform a one night only concert on October 28.  Linda Eder’s diverse repertoire spans Broadway, Standards, Pop, Country, and Jazz. When she performs “live” in concert, it is amazing to experience the ease with which she moves back and forth from one genre to another as if she were gifted with the vocal ability to perform each genre as well as all the other.

 

Comedy has always been popular with CFA audiences so The Wonderbread Years show on Friday, November 10 should be a sell out! A fresh and funny salute to Americana, The Wonder Bread Years Starring Pat Hazell (former Seinfeld Show writer) is a fast-paced, hilarious production that gracefully walks the line between standup and theater. Audiences across the country enjoy a show that not only restores a much-needed sense of wonder, but leaves audiences laughing and savoring the past like never before.

 

Beaufort Children’s Theatre’s sixteenth production November 17-19, teaches that “Beauty is in the eye of the ogre”, with Shrek The Musical JR., based on the Oscar-winning DreamWorks Animation film and Broadway musical.  It’s a “big bright beautiful world” as everyone’s favorite ogre, Shrek, leads a cast of fairytale misfits on an adventure to rescue a princess and find true acceptance.

 

Back by popular demand, December 9 and 10 The Three Redneck Tenors with their popular Christmas Spec tac-YULE-ar. It’s Christmas music like you’ve never heard and won’t easily forget. I guarantee ya! These real life Broadway and Opera stars are ready to rock your holidays with classic, pop and deep-fried fest of musical delights.

 

The Affair with the Arts, the CFA’s annual signature fundraiser, will be held on January 20. Flirt with “Lady Luck” at our Vegas style casino complete with dancing, music, hors d’oeuvres and cocktails.

 

On Friday, January 26, Let’s Hang On,the premiere tribute to Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons will kick off the 2018 performing arts season. Capturing that iconic sound, crisp harmonies and sleek choreography this show will surely take you down memory lane with some of the best music from the 1960’s.  Proudly dubbed America’s #1 Frankie Valli tribute show, if you liked Jersey Boys you will love Let’s Hang On! 

 

No need to go to Africa, Cirque Zuma Zuma is bringing Africa to the Lowcountry on Friday, February 9!  This Cirque style show is filled with non- stop action, music, acrobatics and amazing feats which will keep audiences breathless. This show will include performances of all different types of African culture.

 

Motown and More, on February 17 – 18, will bring together some of our region’s best musicians, Marlena Smalls, Velma Polk, Elaine Lake and the Lowcounty Jazz Band for a show that will tribute Motown artist from Aretha Franklin, Dianna Ross, Gladys Night and the Pips, and more.

 

The son of legendary singer-songwriter Jim Croce, A.J. will perform on March 3 his show “Two Generations of America Music”. Croce features a complete set of classics by his father, Jim Croce; some of his own tunes; and songs that influenced both him and his father. The show includes such timeless songs as “Operator,” “You Don’t Mess Around with Jim,” “Workin’ At the Car Wash Blues,” “Rapid Roy (The Stock Car Boy), “One Less Set of Footsteps,” “Bad, Bad Leroy Brown,” “Lovers Cross,” and “Box #10,” to name a few. Croce began with his first tour at age 18 opening up for B.B. King. In the span of a 20+ year career, A.J. has headlined festivals, concerts and major listening venues worldwide.

A cappella music continues as part for the CFA season with Semi-Toned from Exeter University in the South West of England on Thursday, April 12. Semi-toned is fourteen men strong and in April 2015 earned the title of national champions, having won the Voice Festival UK. Praised for their creativity, uniqueness and vocal acrobatics the group embraces music of a variety of genres to ensure there really is something for everyone in each of their shows and, of course, performed in the group’s trademark witty and engaging style.

 

Beaufort Theatre Company production of the Broadway hit The Producers is sure to be an audience favorite.  This musical comedy production dates are April 28 – 29 and May 4 -5. Producers is a musical adapted by Mel Brooks and Thomas Meehan from Brooks’ 1968 film of the same name, with lyrics written by Brooks and music composed by Brooks and arranged by Glen Kelly and Doug Besterman. As in the film, the story concerns two theatrical producers who scheme to get rich by overselling interests in a Broadway flop.

 

Roald Dahl’s Willy Wonka JR. will be the Beaufort Children’s Theatre spring production May 18 – 20.   Willy Wonka, Jr.  follows enigmatic candy manufacturer Willy Wonka as he stages a contest by hiding golden tickets in five of his scrumptious candy bars. Whomever comes up with these tickets will win a free tour of the Wonka factory, as well as a lifetime supply of candy.
