Welcome Danita Brown, Acting Director of the Reconstruction Era Monument

10 Oct Welcome Danita Brown, Acting Director of the Reconstruction Era Monument

Last week I had the good occasion to meet with Danita who is the Acting Director of the Reconstruction Era Monument currently headquartered on St Helena Island and in Beaufort.

Ms. Brown is a native South Carolinian from Spartanburg who graduated for Clemson University with a Master of Architecture degree. She has 25 years of experience in community development, design, planning, and historic preservation. She came to the National Park Service eight years ago after serving as a consultant to and employee of several public and private organizations and companies.

She serves as a Historical Architect in the Cultural Resources, Partnerships and Science Division at the Southeast Regional Office where she has managed administrative and design/construction agreements to restore historic structures on the campuses of Historically Black Colleges and Universities, and provides technical expert assistance to parks, national programs and partners related to the restoration and rehabilitation of historic structures and cultural resources.

She has a strong connection to the coastal communities of South Carolina, including Beaufort County and Penn Center, and is excited about working with you on the successful opening and operation of a new park unit that she is passionate about.

We are fortunate to have Ms Brown and what she brings from the National Park Service to the lowcountry.  When you meet her, and you will because she is already out and about in the community, give her a warm welcome.
