Last fall I attended the rising sea levels summit in New Hampshire. I met a scientist from South Florida who warned me to expect bad news about the horrific impact the region was facing from rising sea levels.  I’ve always believed rising sea levels was something to prepare for in the future and creating resiliency would be the largest infrastructure issue faced by the next generation.  Little did I know we would be reading this so soon.

The good news is that we are ahead of the curve, identified problem spots and are looking at ways to mitigate the challenge now.

By no means do I want to scare people away from Beaufort or the coast. I simply believe we should open our eyes to what might come and seek solutions.
