Beaufort Digital Corridor funds received!

01 Nov Beaufort Digital Corridor funds received!

I thought you be interested to know that the Beaufort Digital Corridor received $150,000 from Hargray Communications and $25,000 from the SC Municipal Association to pay for necessary improvements to the former Bank of America Building on Carteret Street.  This means that funds set aside for this exciting job -generating center, and Beaufort branding for digital businesses, will be saved and otherwise be available for other job diversification efforts that are under way.
You may also be happy to know that the City has partnered with the Don Ryan Center for Innovation from Bluffton to establish a branch in Beaufort with a focus on helping small businesses grow.  The center in Beaufort will be located in City Hall at no extra expense to the tax payer other than dollars set aside for marketing.
A third cog in this wheel could be the Beaufort County Black Chamber of Commerce Incubator for small business with access to commercial kitchen equipment, office space, business counseling and financial resources to make small loans to small businesses.
A big shout out to Councilmen Stephen Murray and Phil Cromer along with City Manager Bill Prokop and members of the City Redevelopment Commission for pursuing these initiatives and to Councilmen George O’Kelly and Mike McFee who pushed hard to make this good news.
I’m proud to serve on a council that works so well as a team,  along with the RDC, deciding what is important and then applying individual expertise and private sector partners to achieve the mission.
