Celebration of Pat Conroy

16 May Celebration of Pat Conroy

On a warm, sunny Saturday afternoon with a steady breeze whisking up the river, USCB’s Center for the Arts and the City of Beaufort hosted a very special celebration of the life of Beaufort’s beloved Pat Conroy.

Thanks to USC Press Director, Jonathan Haupt, for organizing speakers including celebrated writer and historian Walter Edgar, poet and professor, Ellen Malphrus, NY Times best selling novelist Patti Callahan Henry, Pat’s sidekick Bernie Schein and his wife novelist Cassandra King Conroy.

A special thanks Marlena Smalls who opened the celebration singing ‘American Trilogy’, Bonnie Hargrove USCB CFA Director for organizing and promoting the event, Commodore Chis Canady and the Beaufort Water Festival for providing the sound system, Chief Reece Bertholf and the City of Beaufort Fire Department for supplying chairs and a podium for the wonderful event.

And, of course, thanks to the Conroy family. We received a hint about a forthcoming living memorial literary center that will honor Pat’s legacy and make Beaufort an ever better place to live and visit.
