29 Nov If everyone who opens this newsletter signs the petition we will go from just over 1,000 to over 3,000 signatures
The campaign to establish a multi-site Reconstruction Monument in Beaufort County continues to move forward though we are facing a deadline for petition signers.
It is my understanding that the National Park Service is working diligently to process our “package” and that the Secretary of Interior and President are looking at it very favorably.
But we are not yet there. We must continue to sign the petition. And we must continue to collect letters of support from citizens, noted historians and preservationists and supporters of our national parks and monuments across American.
Assuming all goes well, we hope to have the Secretary of Interior and director of the National Park Service visit us to directly hear our support for the Monument. Stay tuned and plan to join us at the important meeting with the Department of the Interior. We will let you know as soon as a date is announced.
If you have not had or taken the time to sign the petition, please do so as soon as possible and forward to friends. (As an aside the petition is longer than we would like, but we did not want to leave anyone out. So if you are in a hurry all we are asking is that you sign a petition the essence of which is to encourage the establishment of a monument in Beaufort County, SC.
