New book about Robert Smalls, “Be Free or Die: The Amazing Story of Robert Smalls’ Escape from Slavery to Union“ by Cate Lineberry, will soon be released.
Cate Lineberry’s first book “The Secret Rescue: An Untold Story of American Nurses and Medics Behind Nazi Lines” is a mesmerizing tale of the courage and heroism of ordinary people. It tells not only a new story of struggle and endurance, but also one of the daring rescue attempts by clandestine American and British organizations amid the tumultuous landscape of the war.
Lineberry was a staff writer and Europe editor for National Geographic Magazine and the web editor for Smithsonian Magazine. Her work has also appeared in the New York Times. She has appeared as a guest speaker at the National World War II Museum in New Orleans, LA, at the International Spy Museum in Washington, DC, and at the OSS Society’s annual meeting at Congressional Country Club in Bethesda, MD. Originally from Raleigh, North Carolina, she lives in the greater Washington, DC, area.
