Road Trip?

13 Jun Road Trip?

About two years ago I went as a very informal ambassador for the Santa Elena History Center and Foundation to Spain. Count Alvaro was our tour guide and we not only learned a lot but had a great time.  If you have the slightest interest, I can attest that this will be an educational, entertaining and memorable experience.

But I would suggest flying as it is difficult to drive from Beaufort to Spain.

Thanks to the Beuafort County Library, Santa Elena and OLLI for offering this opportunity.

Visit Spain with the Friends of the Library, OLLI, Santa Elena Foundation

BEAUFORT – Friends of the Beaufort Library, Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) and Santa Elena Foundation have banded together to bring an educational adventure to the Lowcountry – a trip to Spain.

Included in the trip will be sights in southern Spain -Madrid, Cordova, Seville, Granada, Valencia, and Barcelona – plus a cocktail party with Count Alvaro, a direct descendant of Pedro Menendez, the Spanish explorer who settled Santa Elena (present-day Parris Island) in 1566. The trip will give travelers the opportunity to learn more about the community’s Spanish roots as well as experience Spanish culture, history, food and people.

Travel dates for this 9 day travel adventure have been set for April 14 – 22, 2018. In addition to the trip itself, a number of events are being planned by the Friends of the Beaufort Library, OLLI and Santa Elena Foundation to be held between now and next spring to highlight the Spanish experience.

A kick-off event will be held at the downtown Beaufort Library at 311 Scott Street on Monday, June 19th at 2:00pm. Jim Buckley from Island Travel, who is coordinating the travel package, will be there to describe the trip in great detail and answer questions. “This is such a great activity because it connects education and growth which reflect the mission of the Library with fun and camaraderie for the community,” said Marilyn Harcharik, President of the Friends of the Beaufort Library.
