Public Review Schedule Extended for Beaufort Code
Thanks to all who attended one or more of the 14 public meetings in March to review and discuss the new Beaufort Code. We have extended the review schedule to give more time for input. A new draft of the code will come out on or before April 6, and the Planning Department will hold a series of meetings to review the changes and hear more input during the month of April. The first Metropolitan Planning Commission meeting will be held the week of May 16.

This is one week later than the schedule that was recently published. This change is due to a scheduling conflict with the MPC, in addition to the need for the Planning Department to digest and address the over 200 public comments and questions we received during the March Public Review process - these comments are posted on the website. Your input is valued so thank you for continuing to participate in this process.

Extended Public Review Period: all meetings will be held in the Planning Conference Room
Wednesday, April 13, 10am - review of code changes and public comment session
Wednesday, April 13, 5:30pm - review of code changes and public comment session
Wednesday, April 20, 5:30pm - public comment session
Monday, April 25, 2pm - public comment session
A new draft of the Code considering public comment heard through April 29 will be published on or about May 6.

Comment Online. There is a simple comment form so you can give us your comments. All comments we receive online and hear in the meetings will be posted on our website, along with comments from staff and a proposal for how to address them. It will look similar to this summary of comments from the Technical Review Committee.

Is this all new to you? Here’s what’s going on: The City of Beaufort Planning Department is hosting a series of Public Meetings to review a draft of the Beaufort Code - an update to the City’s development code. This new code has been in the works for several years, and we recently completed a one-month, 14-meeting public review process that generated over 200 comments from the public. The draft, along with a full list of comments and resolutions, and an updated map, can be found on the Beaufort Code page of the City’s website.
So what’s next? We have an updated schedule of public meetings. Some focus on specific neighborhoods and interest groups, while two others are general overviews with the opportunity to discuss specific areas of interest as well. Get Involved!
