SQUADRON COMMANDERS TO BE GUEST SPEAKERS AT APRIL LIBPA MEETING

 

Lieutenant Colonel Nicholas Niemer, Commanding Officer of VMFA-251,

and Lieutenant Colonel Gregory Summa, Commanding Officer of VMFAT-501

 will be the guest speakers at the Tuesday, April 12 meeting of the Lady’s Island Business and Professional Association.  Representatives of Marine Corps Air Station will also attend the meeting to discuss those subjects unique to the Air Station. The meeting will be held at 8 AM in the Beaufort Realtor’s Association Headquarters located in the Palmetto Business Park on Lady’s Island Drive (behind BB&T Bank).  The meeting is open to the public. 

 

Lieutenant Colonel Neimer, assumed command of VMFA-251 in May 2015. His previous duties included serving with First Battalion, Sixth Marines as a Forward Air Controller and Air Officer in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom in Fallujah, Iraq. He has logged over 2000 military flight hours in multiple military aircraft and has flown more than 89 combat missions.

 

Lieutenant Colonel Summa, assumed command of VMFAT-501 in July 2015.  He is a Naval Academy graduate and was designated a Naval Aviator in 2001.  His previous duties include service in Iraq and attendance at the Weapons and Tactics Instructor (WTI) Course and the Navy Fighter Weapons School (TOPGUN). In 2013 he transitioned from the F/A-18 to the F-35B.

 

It has been requested that the following subjects be included in their discussion with our members.

 

¨ Recently there appears to have been an increase in flight operations - why?  

¨ Status of the local F-35B program.

¨ Are more or fewer deployments for Air Station squadrons projected in the future?

¨ What is the long range plan for the transition of the F-18 to F-35B at the Air Station?

¨ Has the Air Station completed the needed infrastructure changes necessary to support the F-35B?

¨ Are there any plans for an alternate landing field?
